Nothing can stop us now! Beaming Kate Silverton braves the snow as she marries Mike Heron in a fairytale wedding

By Sarah Bull

Happier than ever: Kate Silverton and her new husband Mike Heron pose outside the church after getting married

Some brides would be devastated if they woke up and saw sleet and snow reducing London to complete and utter chaos.

But Kate Silverton couldn't have looked happier today as she married her partner of two years Mike Heron at Fleet Street's St Bride's Church.

The 40-year-old beamed for photographers as two wedding guests ensured her beautiful wedding dress wasn't ruined by the wet weather conditions on the way to the venue.

The BBC newsreader opted for a stunning ivory dress with lace sleeves and a full tulle skirt teamed with a full-length veil and matching silk shoes as she tied the knot.

The blushing bride: The new Mrs Heron couldn't hide her delight as she and her new husband greeted guests after the ceremony at Fleet Street's St Bride's Church

And, after the ceremony, a clearly emotional Mrs Heron couldn't hide her delight as her guests showered the newlyweds with confetti outside the church.

Security expert Heron, 43, who was a Royal Marine, proposed to her on one knee in the Piazza del Popolo on a surprise trip to Rome last year.

He had a Forevermark engagement ring made especially for her because he knew Miss Silverton would want a diamond that was ethically sourced.

Going to the chapel...: A emotional Kate is helped with her full dress by two guests as she arrives at the church

She once admitted that she did not think that she would find love after years being single, saying: ‘I’m not your typical bride.

‘It has taken me 40 years to get to this point and, frankly, I was not sure whether marriage was for me.’

The couple met on a course for BBC journalists working in war zones or other difficult environments.

Excited: Kate married security expert Heron after two years together

Emotional: Kate's eyes were glistening as she was helped with her veil ahead of the romantic ceremony

She said: ‘I took a shine to him not just because I found him so attractive physically but also because of who he was and the qualities he had.

‘That is to say his strength of character, his intelligence and the moral values we share.

‘He is the kind of man who has no need to please other people for the sake of pleasing; he is self-contained, kind, funny and a natural gentleman.’

Unrecognisable: Yesterday, Kate stepped out in a rather masculine outfit as she completed last minute errands

The image of the newsreader as the blushing bride today couldn't have been further from how she appeared yesterday, running some last minute errands around London before her big day.

Hunched over her phone, she was hard to recognise in her rather masculine outfit of jogging bottoms, Ugg boots and a flat cap as one of the country’s most glamorous newscasters.
