Beckhams 'to send Brooklyn to British private school'

By Lara Gould

Private school: David and Victoria plan to send their eldest son, Brooklyn, 11, to a private school in the UK.

They have repeatedly spoken of their desire to make the US their home and boasted that their three sons speak with American accents.

But it seems David and Victoria Beckham are preparing to quit Los Angeles and return to Britain.

The Mail on Sunday has been told that the couple, who have a £145 million fortune, plan to send their eldest son Brooklyn, 11, to one of England’s elite independent schools.

The school, with many famous alumni, is 40 minutes from ‘Beckingham Palace’, their £18 million mansion in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire.

Staff and pupils on the school council have discussed Brooklyn’s application to see how the school might cope with the attention such a high-profile boy would attract.

Senior figures at the school, where fees are up to £14,000 a year, have also met to discuss security requirements.

The school is a far cry from David’s formative years, which were spent at a state secondary in Chingford, Essex.

The Beckhams have been living abroad since 2003 when David, 35, left Manchester United for Real Madrid. He moved to Los Angeles in 2007 to play for LA Galaxy but that deal ends next year.

A source close to the family said the Beckhams plan to move back to Britain next year. The couple, expecting their fourth child, have retained their Hertfordshire home, which is close to their families and was bought for £2.5 million in 1999.

They also own an Italian-style mansion in Los Angeles, reportedly worth £11 million, as well as homes in Dubai and the South of France.

The family flew back to Los Angeles on Wednesday after spending two months in Britain during the US football league’s winter break.

David maintained his fitness by training with Spurs in Chigwell, Essex, fuelling speculation he might return to the club he played for as a schoolboy.

A spokesman for the school said yesterday: ‘We never comment on the names of pupils or potential pupils.’

But a source close to the couple said it was ‘the type of school they would look at’, adding, ‘they have looked at several schools’.

A spokesman for the Beckhams declined to comment.
